EAST MEADOW, N.Y. — The LIU women's hockey team has set a program record for an unbeaten streak, albeit with a winning streak snapped in the process.
This time the Sharks used a different script — rallying from a deficit on Friday.
LIU dug out of a two-goal hole to tie Franklin Pierce, 2-2, in overtime at Northwell Health Ice Center.
The Sharks' nine-game unbeaten streak (8-0-1) surpassed an eight-game winning streak early last season for the longest unbeaten streak in the four-year-old program's history.
LIU now stands at 106-1 overall and 9-1-1 in the New England Women's Hockey Alliance.
The Sharks fell behind 2-0 with 6:38 remaining in the second period on Jenna Ruiz's goal for the Ravens.
Ashley Morrow's power-play goal less than a minute later pulled LIU within one.
Alva Johnsson then produced the equalizer 4:44 into the third period.
LIU trailed in a game for the first time since rallying for a victory against Post on Oct. 29.
Goaltender
Tindra Holm, who will join Team Sweden next week for a Five Nations tourney in her native country, made 23 saves for the Sharks.
"One of the things we experienced this season at the beginning, playing a couple of ranked teams, is that we always compete until the end and we always find a way to come back," coach
Kelly Nash said. "With that being said, I don't think we're used to that mentality given the last few weekends. And so we're trying to get back to playing that full 60 minutes and starting off the games the way we finish it."
The teams meet against Saturday at 2 p.m. at Northwell Health Ice Center.
