TEANECK, N.J. — LIU's match vs. FDU on Saturday was important for Northeast Conference tournament implications.
And the Sharks arrived with a vengeance.
LIU won in straight sets over the Knights, 26-24, 25-23 and 25-19, improving to 12-12 and 7-5 in the NEC, a half game back of the third seed.
The first set the tone for the entirety of the match, tied at 23 after a timeout from
Ken Ko. The Sharks rattled off three straight points to win, 26-24, with
Amaris Smith finishing off with a kill.
Neither team led by more than two in the second set. And it included some similarities from the opening set.
The match tied at 23 when LIU took charge and scored twice to take a commanding two-zero lead.
A challenge in the third gave LIU its 24
th point before an attack error to close out the match.
Karolina Nova and
Amaris Smith combined for 25 kills to lead the offense.
Allie Merz played facilitator again, notching 32 assists.
LIU is back in action on Nov. 11 at 5 p.m. against Stonehill for senior day.
