FORT MYERS, Fla. — LIU men's basketball wrapped up its road trip against Northern Illinois on Wednesday morning.
The Sharks fell to the Huskies, 86-61, in the Fort Myers Tip-Off third place game of the Palms Division and moved to 1-4 on the season.
LIU trailed by 23 at half.
Jacob Johnson and
Quion Burns each had six points. The NIU lead was built primarily on their three-point attempts on a torrid 8-14 (57%).
As a team, the Sharks shot 33% from the field and just 20% from beyond the arc.
In the absence of Tre' Wood,
R.J. Greene has assumed point guard duties. He led the team in scoring (14) and played 38 minutes for the second-straight game.
The freshman guard also finished 8-10 from the free throw line.
Burns continued to attack the rim in the second half and finished in double figures with 12.
Marko Maletic added 12 off the bench. He has now scored double figures in four consecutive games.
Jacob Johnson finished with 11 points (7-8 FT) and seven rebounds.
Every player that entered the contest scored.
LIU returns action against St. John's on Nov. 29 at 6:30 p.m.
