QUEENS, N.Y. — LIU men's basketball had several players on the injury report before tipping off vs. St. John's on Tuesday night.
Among the inactives were players that received meaningful minutes in the beginning of the season —
Tre' Wood,
Jake Cook,
Noble Crawford and
Amadou Fall.
Despite the unavailability, the Sharks hung with the undefeated Red Storm, but lost, 95-68, to move to 1-5 overall.
The first half was controlled by St. John's, but LIU cut the lead to 12 on a
Jacob Johnson layup with 4:55 until halftime.
R.J. Greene started his fourth-straight game at point guard and saw defensive assignments from Posh Alexander and André Curbelo, two of the top guards in the Big East.
The freshman finished with 13 points and five assists in 39 minutes.
Johnson had an impressive stretch in the early stages of the second. He scored eight straight, including two three's and a two-handed dunk in transition.
The Minneapolis, Minn. native finished with 17 on 7-11 shooting, including 3-3 from deep.
Quion Burns reached double figures with 10 and pulled down eight rebounds.
Freshman center
C.J. Delancy provided a spark off the bench with six points and five rebounds.
LIU returns to action next on Friday vs. Towson at 7 p.m.
