BROOKVILLE, N.Y. — LIU women's cross country is gearing up for the IC4A/ECAC Championship in nine days, and one of its top runners was recognized by the Northeast Conference this week.
 
Ainhoa Brea was named NEC Women's Cross Country Athlete of the Week on Wednesday.
 
The Asturias, Spain native was the top finisher at the Paul Short Invitational with a time of 21:25.2 in the 6K, a personal best.
 
"I was pleased with my performance," Brea said about her 6K time at Lehigh. "I set a personal record, which was huge for me, and is something I will look to build on as the season continues."
 
The Sharks will run next at Van Cortlandt Park at the IC4A/ECAC Championships on Oct. 14.
