Field Hockey Goes Down to Wire with Fairfield in Home Finale

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. — On a rainy Sunday at Bethpage Federal Credit Union Stadium, the LIU field hockey team hosted Fairfield in a Northeast Conference match.
 
Ultimately, the Sharks fell to the Stags, 3-2, in a game that came down to a penalty shot in the final quarter.
 
Emilce Paez and Saarah Olton scored two quick first-period goals to give the Sharks a 2-0 lead.
 
Fairfield capitalized in the second quarter, after Nora Amme scored a pair of goals, including the game-tying goal just before the first-half horn sounded.
 
The Stags grabbed their first lead of the game once Amme scored her third goal of the game, on a penalty shot in the fourth quarter.
 
The Sharks were eliminated from postseason contention with Sunday's defeat. The regular season concludes Friday at 2 p.m. at Wagner.
