BROOKVILLE, N.Y. — On a sunny day at Bethpage Federal Credit Union stadium, the LIU field hockey team hosted Rider in a Northeast Conference match.
Ultimately, the Sharks fell to the Broncs, 3-2, in a tightly contested game.
After Rider scored early in the first to take the game's first lead, LIU registered two chances, one on goal from
Meilin Liotard off a corner.
King scored on a pass across the field from
Emilce Paez to bring the deficit to one.
With 40 seconds remaining,
Pippa Sickler scored on a rebound to bring the tally to 3-2. LIU had possession before the clock expired, but Rider forced a turnover to end the match.
Sickler's goal was the first of her young career.
Maggie Streichert finished with seven saves, including a back-to-back save sequence in the third that kept the game at bay.
The Sharks move to 6-10 and will take on Fairfield next on Sunday at 12 p.m.
