BROOKVILLE, N.Y. — The LIU rugby team returns to Blitz Field this Saturday to host Quinnipiac at 1 p.m. However, a win on the field is not the only goal for the Sharks this week.
The team is raising money throughout the week and at the game to assist with breast cancer awareness and research by selling 50/50 raffle tickets.
The winner will be drawn toward the end of the match.
Proceeds will benefit the Susan G. Komen Foundation.
The initiative is spearheaded by co-captain
Gina Pollice.
"It was really important to our team that we have a game dedicated to something bigger than ourselves," said co-captain
Gina Pollice, who spearheaded the initiative. "With a majority of our games falling in the month of October, and it also being Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we knew we wanted this to be our main focus.
"It worked out well with this being our first home game of the year, where we expect a big turnout."
The LIU rugby team hopes Shark Nation will show its support for the cause with a Pink Out on Saturday against Quinnipiac. To show your support, don your best pink gear and come down to Blitz Field. There is no charge for admission.
