ERIE, Pa. – The LIU women's ice hockey team never trailed during their second meeting with Mercyhurst on Saturday afternoon, scoring quickly in the first and twice in the second period to take down the Lakers 3-2. LIU is now 12-9-1 on the season.
 
SHARK BITES

• Sophomore Sarah Rourke scored a solo goal just three minutes into the game to put the Sharks up 1-0.
• Midway through the first period, Mercyhurst responded and scored an even strength goal to draw level at 1-1.
• In the second period, junior Carrigan Umpherville scored a solo goal on a power play, to push the Sharks ahead 2-1.
• Three minutes later, freshman Jeannie Wallner scored the eventual game-winner, assisted by sophomore Maggie Culp and junior Julia Hoffman, to give LIU a 3-1 cushion over the Lakers.
• Mercyhurst pulled their goalie late, and with an extra attacker on the ice, scored with just 12 seconds left in the match to finish the game with a one-goal deficit, 3-2.
• Up next, the Sharks head to Manchester, N.H. to take on Saint Anselm College in a two-game NEWHA series January 14 & 15.
