BROOKLYN, N.Y. - The LIU women's basketball team had a big win at home Thursday night, beating CCSU, 74-67. A comeback effort in the fourth quarter earned the Sharks their third Northeast Conference win.
Sophomore guard
Dallas Carter had a career-high 18 points, all from long distance, as she went 6-for-9 from three-point range.
SHARK BITES
- The game started end-to-end with a fast paced first quarter. LIU trailed 22-16 at the end of the quarter with half of the Shark's points coming from senior forward Kiara Bell.
- At the end of the second quarter, LIU went on an 11-4 run to end the first half and pull back to trail by just two points, 34-32. The bounce back was led by Carter, who made two threes, and had an assist on a three for freshman guard Danielle Grim.
- A Grim three-pointer put LIU ahead 37-36 early in the third, but the Blue Devils retook the lead and were up 48-43 with five minutes left to play. They held onto the lead until the middle of the fourth quarter, in part because of LIU's struggles at the free throw line.
- The Sharks regained the lead, 61-60, thanks to a layup from freshman guard Tayra Eke with five minutes to play. They didn't trail again for the rest of the game.
- Senior guard Brandy Thomas had 12 points, seven rebounds, two assists, and two steals.
- Senior forward Kiara Bell had 12 points, eight rebounds and a block.
- Grim finished with 11 points, while Zoee Hache led the team with four assists. Carter also added three assists in the win.
- The Sharks shot 47.5 percent from the field, including a scorching 61.54 percent in the third stanza. LIU also hit 61 percent of its threes, going 11-for-18 from behind the arc.
