Men’s Basketball Clashes with CCSU

NEW BRITAIN, Conn. – The LIU men's basketball team led by as many as 19 points on the road at Central Connecticut State Thursday night, but fell to the Blue Devils late, 65-62. With the loss, LIU is now 8-11 on the season, and 5-4 in Northeast Conference play.

  • LIU went up early in Detrick Gym, using points from Kyndall Davis and Ty Flowers to take a13-4 lead by the first media timeout.
  • Six straight points from senior Ty Flowers, and a three pointer by freshman Quion Burns gave LIU a 29-10 lead at the midway point of the first half.
  • CCSU chipped away at the deficit, but the Sharks still had a 39-29 advantage at the halftime break.
  • The Blue Devils continued to make headway, but LIU held on to the lead until the 9:26 mark int eh second half. At that point, two made free throws by the home team tied it up, and gave them their first lead of the game, 46-45. CCSU would not trail again.
  • LIU tied it up three more times in regulation, and had a chance to tie it up in the final seconds, but the shot didn't fall, and the Blue Devils took the win.
  • The Sharks shot 50 percent from the field in the first half, but that percentage dropped to 27.78 in the second stanza. LIU also struggled from long range, with just 27.3 percent of threes made.
  • CCSU's defense managed to score 22 points off of LIU's 13 turnovers, and limited the Sharks to just four fast-break points.
  • Ty Flowers led LIU with 22 points and 11 rebounds. He also had two steals.
  • Isaac Kante had 13 points and seven rebounds for the Sharks.
  • Alex Rivera and Kyndall Davis each had seven points for LIU, while Eral Penn had six points and eight rebounds.
  • Up next, the Sharks take on Bryant, Saturday at 2 p.m., in a game that will air on CBS Sports Network.
