HACKENSACK, N.J. – The LIU men's volleyball team notched the first set wins in program history Tuesday night, and held on to make it the first match win ever for the Sharks, beating FDU on the road, 3-1 (25-16, 25-20, 18-25, 28-26). Freshman opposite
Luke Chandler led the Sharks with 16 kills and eight service aces in the win.
SHARK BITES
- LIU went up early on the Knights, winning the first two sets. The Sharks set the tone in the fast-paced sets, hitting .429 in the second set.
- In the third set, FDU pushed back and took the set 25-18 to put the match at 2-1.
- The Knights also threatened to take a fourth set win and push the match to five, but the Sharks hung in and took the set win 28-26. LIU had had four service aces and 13 kills in the decisive fourth.
- Chandler led LIU's attack with 16 kills, hitting .306. He also had eight aces to lead the Sharks with 24 points.
- Freshman setter Kasey Clouet had 22 assists, two kills and four blocks, while freshman libero Danny Seliger finished the evening with eight digs and a kill.
- Jordan Cooper and Caden Satterfield each had seven kills for LIU. Sattterfield also added five digs on defense, while Eddy Alexandre led the team with five total blocks at the net.
- Up next, the Sharks travel up to Amherst, N.Y., to take on Daemen and D'Youville in a two-match day, Saturday, January 29. First serve will be at 1:30 and 4:30 p.m.
