Box Score NEW YORK, N.Y. – The LIU women's tennis team took part in its first dual match of the 2022 spring season, taking on local rival Columbia on the road Sunday afternoon. The Sharks fell to the Lions, 6-1.
LIU had a win in the No. 1 doubles spot, where
Elinor Storkaas and
Victoria Erechtchenko beat the top Lions duo, 6-3. Storkaas was also the only Shark to get a win in singles, beating Clarine Lerby in the No. 5 singles spot, 6-4, 7-6 (7-3).
"I am very happy with our performance today," head coach
Jan Griga said. "While we had a tough task of playing a very strong Columbia team in our first match of the season, we most certainly rose to the occasion and thoroughly pushed the Lions today. The maturity of this year's roster is becoming very evident, and if today's performance is any indication of the trajectory we are currently on—with the work we continue to put in each week—the Sharks could have quite the season this year."
