WASHINGTON, D.C. - The LIU women's soccer team fell to Northeast Conference opponent Howard 3-0 on the road Thursday. With the loss, the Sharks move to 0-5-2 overall, and 0-2-1 in NEC action. Howard, in its first season as an affiliate member of the NEC, moved to 4-3-0 overall, and 3-1-0 in the NEC.
The Bison got on the board first, scoring a goal in the 21st minute. Howard would out-shoot LIU 8-2 in the first half. Keeper
Kayla DeTreux made two saves to keep the Sharks in the game, and LIU trailed, 1-0 at the break.
In the second half, LIU was able to match Howard's offensive output, and the shots were even, 6-6. Two of Howard's shots landed on net though. The home team would score in the 72nd minute, and then again in the 78th minute, to widen the lead to 3-0. Howard's keeper made four saves, including two in the last 15 minutes of the game to preserve the shutout, and give the Bison the 3-0 win.
