LORETTO, Pa. – For the second time in as many days, the LIU women's volleyball team took a Northeast Conference opponent to five sets, but this time, it didn't go the way oof the Sharks, as LIU lost a heartbreaker to Saint Francis U., 3-2 (17-25, 25-17, 25-22, 26-28, 15-9).
SHARK BITES
- LIU jumped out to an early lead in set one and rolled to the 1-0 advantage, before the home team would tie it up in set two. The Red Flash took a 2-1 lead by taking sets two and three before the Sharks took a big win in set four.
- In the fourth set, down 21-18, LIU battled back in a big way, winning five straight points to go up, 23-21. The two teams battled from there, until a kill from Jovana Stekovic gave Liu the 28-26 win, forcing the decisive fifth set.
- In set five, SFU had a big rally tied 3-3. The home team would six straight points to lead, 9-3, and then again 12-4. Though the Sharks fought back, SFU only needed three more points to take the set, which they did, 15-9, and the match, 3-2.
- Karolina Nova led LIU with 15 kills and 11 digs, while Jovana Stekovic had 12 kills and freshman Katie Berg had eight.
- Sophomore setter Ainsley Malis had 40 assists and 13 digs, while Anastasia Scott led the defense with 26 digs.
- LIU moves to 1-1 in NEC action, while SFU is now 2-0.
- Up next, the Sharks host Merrimack in their home opener, Friday, October 1 at 7 p.m.
