BROOKLYN, N.Y. - The LIU women's volleyball team improved to 2-1 in Northeast Conference action Friday evening, beating Merrimack in the team's home opener, 3-0 (25-15, 25-15, 25-17).

• LIU hit .259 in the match, with 11 service aces.
• The Sharks were led by 10 kills from senior Jovana Stekovic, who also had eight digs.
• Karolina Nova and Rumur Rouille each had nine kills in the win.
• Barbora Hoskova had a team-high 11 digs, along with three service aces.
• The game was a series of runs for LIU. A 9-1 run in the first set gave the home team a 13-5 lead, and in the second set, a similar 7-1 run made it 14-5 for the Sharks. Corinne Meier had three service aces in that second set run.
• In set three, Merrimack had a late 5-0 run that would threaten LIU's lead, but the Sharks held on to win set three with ease, 25-17, and the match, 3-0.
