PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The LIU field hockey team took BIG EAST opponent Providence on the road Sunday, falling to the Friars, 5-2. Senior
Sammy Bell scored both of LIU's goals in the loss.
The Sharks had a strong first half, outshooting Providence in both periods. LIU's first goal of the day came with just under 90 seconds left in the period. The Sharks got a penalty corner, and not long after, Bell caused a turnover and fired from the middle of the circle past the goalie, putting LIU up, 1-0.
In the second period, Bell scored again, this time with just over a minute left in the half. She scored on a give-and-go from
Felicia King, putting the Sharks up, 2-0 at the halftime break.
Coming out of the break, however, the home team shifted the momentum in a big way, scoring three goals in the third period, including one on a penalty stroke to make it 3-2. Two more goals in the fourth period cemented the win for Providence, 5-2.
