NEW YORK, N.Y. - The LIU field hockey team traveled to northern Manhattan Friday afternoon to take on Ivy League opponent Columbia. The Sharks fell to the Lions, 3-1. With the loss, LIU moves to 1-2 on the season, while Columbia improves to 3-0.

The Lions scored quickly in the game, going up 1-0 with a goal just 76 seconds into the game. Columbia would add a goal in the second period and another in the third, taking a 3-0 lead on LIU.

The Sharks got on the board in the fourth quarter, scoring with just under five minutes left to play. Junior Kaitlyn Olton scored her first goal of the season, assisted by Emilce Paez. With the deficit cut to 3-1, LIU continued to pressure the Lions, but it wasn't enough, and the home team took the 3-1 win.
