TEANECK, N.J. – The LIU baseball team scored 18 runs on 14 hits Saturday afternoon, beating the FDU Knights, 18-2. With the win, the Sharks improve to 17-12 overall this season, and 15-11 in the Northeast Conference.
Ryan Mullahey led LIU in the DH spot, going 2-for-4 with five RBI.
The Knights would get on the board first, scoring a run in the bottom of the first on an RBI double. But the Sharks answered in the top of the second, scoring three of their own.
Senior
Christopher Wasson led off with a single, and
Giovanni Ciaccio walked.
Colin Adams would walk to load the bases. On the next at bat, Mullahey hit into a double play, but Wasson would score to tie it up, 1-1. After
Seth Surrett walked, two runs would score on an FDU throwing error, and the Sharks had a 3-1 advantage.
LIU added two more in the top of the third. Wasson had an RBI single, and then with the bases loaded, Mullahey had an RBI groundout that made it 5-1.
The Sharks broke the game open in the top of the fifth, scoring seven runs. Adams and Mullahey had back-to-back RBI walks, then Surrett had an RBI groundout to make it 8-2. With two outs, a single from
Brian O'Boyle brough in two more runs. And Warneke had a double to center field that added two more, and the Sharks came out of the inning with a 12-2 lead.
In the sixth, a double from Mullahey and a sac fly from Surrett made it 14-2. And two more runs in the eighth made it 16-2. Mullahey would have a sac fly, and
Davyn Adamscheck came in to pinch hit, with an RBI double to left center field that made it 16-2.
The Sharks added two more runs in the top of the ninth.
Myles Proctor had an RBI double, and Mullahey had a double to right center that would score one more, making it 18-2.
LIU's bullpen came through in the final innings, helping clinch the win.

Josh Gainer and
Salvatore Ferro held FDU scoreless over the last five innings, holding the Knights to just three hits, while striking out a combined five.
The two teams wrap up the series Sunday, with a nine inning contest slated to begin at 12 p.m.
