Offensive Explosion Powers Baseball to 14-5 Win over FDU

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. – The LIU baseball team used 13 hits to score 14 runs over nine innings at home Friday afternoon, beating Fairleigh Dickinson, 14-5. With the win, LIU improved to 5-3 in NEC action.

The Sharks got on the board in the bottom of the first. After senior Anthony Warneke had a lead off double, and advanced on a groundout, he scored on a wild pitch to put LIU up, 1-0.

The Sharks broke the game open in the bottom of the second with two outs, scoring eight runs. Warneke had a two RBI single, and a wild pitch moved runners to second and third. Davyn Adamscheck hit a bunt single down the third base line, and beat the throw to get on base, as Warneke scored on the play. On the next at bat, Christopher Wasson hit an identical bunt to the exact same spot down the line, and he too beat the throw, as another run scored to make it 5-0. Senior Andy Camilo would walk to load the bases once more, and then Colin Adams was walked to bring in another run, 6-0.

Senior Dawson Degnan had a long single to center field, and as FDU tried to make the play at home, he advanced to second, and two more runs would score. And Seth Surrett made it 9-0 when he singled past the second baseman to score one more. After two innings, LIU led, 9-0.

FDU would add three runs in the top of the third, one in the fourth, and one in the fifth, but the Sharks kept scoring along the way, and led 11-5 after four and a half innings. In the bottom of the fifth, Camilo would triple down the right field line to add a 12th run, and the Sharks would add two more in the bottom of the eight, to widen the lead to the eventual final, 14-5.
