BROOKVILLE, N.Y. – The LIU women's rugby team had two dominant wins at home Sunday morning, beating local rival Molloy, 48-0 twice.
In the first game, freshman
Ava Zopf had the first two tries of the game for LIU, making both conversions to put the Sharks up, 14-0. Sophomore
Haniyah Baugh had assists on both of the first two tries. LIU finished the half with a try from freshman
Angelina Pollice that made it 19-0.
In the second period, Zopf was the first on the board, followed by a try from
Esme Heater. Freshman
Kate Ryan had back-to-back tries, the second with help from Baugh. Baugh capped scored for the Sharks in the contest, with the final try to make it 48-0.
In game two, scoring was shared more evenly across the squad. Freshman
Brianna Gloeckner scored the first try, with help from
Abigail Timmins. Timmins would make the conversion, and LIU led, 7-0.
Ryan added another try, and Pollice converted it to make it 19-0 at the break.
In the second, junior
Brianna Thomas opened with a try, and then
Arianne Jones had a try off a pass from Zopf.
Anna Wallace would add a try, and the Sharks capped the game with a try for senior
Tatyanna Ogbue, that would give LIU the win by a final score of 48-0.
The Sharks honored seniors Ogbue and
Abigail Timmins before the game, along with senior manager Mecca Shomari.
