BROOKVILLE, N.Y. – Despite having several opportunities during the first half, the Long Island University men's soccer team exploded for four second-half goals to upend Central Connecticut State University, 4-0 at the LIU Soccer Park on Monday, March 29.
LIU fired five shots on goal during the first half but were denied on each attempt by Blue Devil goalkeeper Jason Dubrovich. Although the Blue and Gold failed to find the back of the net during the opening 45 minutes, it took just 1:15 to tally the game's opening goal during the second half. After a foul was called on the left flank,
Javier Rehberger sent a cross into the box on a set piece where
Fridtjof Andberg headed one inside the right post to give LIU the lead.
Midway through the half,
Jonas Dovland took a pass from
Assane Ben Fall and tallied his second goal of the season. Moments later
Emil Jaaskelainen chested down a long ball to the top of the box from
Saidou Diallo and turned and fired a shot past Dubrovich to put the game out of reach. The Sharks capped off the big second half with a fourth goal during the 86th minute when
Papa Sow sent a through ball to
Michael Mollica for his first career goal.
Eight different Sharks recorded at least one point on the day. As a team, LIU outshot the Blue Devils 16-3 and held a 10-2 advantage in shots on goal.
Demetri Skoumbakis made two saves in goal to record the shutout and earn the victory.
The Sharks will return to action on Monday, April 5 when they host Mount St. Mary's University in its penultimate regular-season contest beginning at 1:00 pm.
