HAVERHILL, Mass. – The LIU women's tennis team continued to roll through the Northeast Conference Sunday afternoon, beating Merrimack 6-1 to improve to 5-0 in NEC action.
The Sharks won the doubles point, taking all three matches.
Bianca Compuesto and
Elinor Storkaas had the first win at No. 3, 6-0, followed by
Victoria Erechtchenko and
Jasmine Maduel's win in the No. 2 spot, 6-2. And the No. 1 duo of
Sofiya Kuzina and
Valentina Dancenco took the win, 7-5.
In singles, the Sharks won four quick matches in straight sets to clinch the victory. Kuzina continued her undefeated streak at No. 1 singles, beating Kristina Calistro, 6-1, 6-3. Storkaas had the next win in the No. 4 spot, beating Nikala Tuffanelli, 6-1, 6-1, while Compuesto clinched the win at No. 2 singles, where she beat Allyson Nerf, 6-0, 6-0.
Kate Jorjoliani won in the No. 3 singles spot, beating Rosemary Campanella, 6-3, 6-4, while sophomore
Phoebe Watton had a win in the No. 6 spot, 7-6(3), 7-6(4). Merrimack's lone point came at No. 5 singles, where Maduel dropped a battle, 6-3, 6-7, 10-4.
