BROOKLYN, N.Y. – The LIU volleyball team won its first two games of the season Tuesday, beating SFBK 3-1 in back-to-back games. The Sharks won the first game 25-19, 17-25, 25-19, 25-15, and the second game 25-20, 25-20, 21-25, 25-17.
SHARK BITES
- In the first game of the day, LIU was led offensively by Jovana Stekovic and Karolina Nova, who both had double doubles. Both registered 18 kills on offense. Nova also had 15 digs, while Stekovic had 10 digs, and led the team with three service aces.
- Setter Ainsley Malis had 46 assists for the Sharks, along with six kills, while senior Anastasia Scott led the team with 18 digs. Barbora Hoskova added nine kills and 12 digs for LIU in the win.
- LIU won despite SFBK's 10 blocks at the net.
- Game two was more of a battle that saw the Sharks with improved blocking at the net, and 10 services aces as a team.
- Stekovic and Nova both registered double doubles again, and this time, Hoskova joined them, along with Malis.
- Stekovic finished with 16 kills and 18 digs, along with two aces.
- Nova had 16 kills and 14 digs, with two service aces of her own.
- Hoskova had 10 kills (with only two hitting errors), along with 12 digs for the Sharks, and two blocks.
- Malis had 49 assists for the Sharks over four sets, along with 10 digs and three service aces.
- Miranda Strongman finished the game with a team-high five blocks, including two solo, to go with her seven kills and four digs.
- Scott had another 16 kills on defense for LIU in game two.
- Up next, the Sharks have 10 days of rest before hosting Sacred Heart in their home opener, Friday March 12 at 2 p.m.
