BROOKLYN, N.Y. – The LIU volleyball team improved to 4-0 in Northeast Conference play Tuesday, sweeping Fairleigh Dickinson in two games, 3-0, 3-1. The Sharks won the first game 25-12, 25-20, 25-20, but FDU made it tougher in the second match of the day, taking the first set and fighting the Sharks every step of the way, 23-25, 25-23, 25-16, 25-20.
SHARK BITES
- The Sharks had 11 service aces in the first game of the day, to FDU's zero.
- Sophomore Karolina Nova led LIU in the first game, notching 15 kills, with seven digs and two blocks. Senior Jovana Stekovic had 12 kills (with no errors, and a .522 hitting percentage), and nine digs.
- Junior Anastasia Scott led the defense with 18 digs in game one, while freshman setter Ainsley Malis had 33 assists and a team-high three service aces.
- In game two, it was sophomore Miranda Strongman who led the Sharks, as she had 15 kills (with a .458 hitting percentage), seven blocks (two solo and five assists), three service aces and four digs.
- Nova was also highlight for LIU, with 15 kills and 20 digs along with three aces, while Stekovic had 11 kills and 12 digs. Scott added 26 digs and three aces, while Malis had 40 assists, nine digs and two block assists.
- Up next, LIU hosts Sacred Heart, Friday, March 12 for a double header in the Steinberg Wellness Center starting at 2 p.m.
