NEW BRITTAIN, Conn. – LIU women's lacrosse head coach
Meghan McNamara hit a career milestone Saturday afternoon, when the Sharks beat the Blue Devils, 11-5 on the road. The win was Coach McNamara's 200th win as head coach.
Junior
Whitney Moran led the Sharks on offense with a hat trick, while seven other LIU players scored in the victory. LIU improved to 2-1 in the Northeast Conference with the win, and 4-1 overall.
LIU jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first 15 minutes, behind unassisted goals from
Amanda Masullo and Moran.
Francesca Vasile-Cozzo then had back-to-back assists on the next two goals, as
Jamie Alvino and
Paige Sherlock found the back of the net.
Moran, Sherlock,
Rachel Masullo and
Sara Stephens all scored in the first half, giving the Sharks a 9-2 lead at the break.
Scoring slowed for LIU in the second half, but it wouldn't stop completely. Seniors
Hannah von Hollen and
Elise Person would both score unassisted goals. CCSU added three goals late in the period, but it wouldn't be enough, as LIU took the 11-5 win.
