McNamara Reaches 200 Wins with WLax’s 11-5 Defeat of CCSU

NEW BRITTAIN, Conn. – LIU women's lacrosse head coach Meghan McNamara hit a career milestone Saturday afternoon, when the Sharks beat the Blue Devils, 11-5 on the road. The win was Coach McNamara's 200th win as head coach.

Junior Whitney Moran led the Sharks on offense with a hat trick, while seven other LIU players scored in the victory. LIU improved to 2-1 in the Northeast Conference with the win, and 4-1 overall.

LIU jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first 15 minutes, behind unassisted goals from Amanda Masullo and Moran. Francesca Vasile-Cozzo then had back-to-back assists on the next two goals, as Jamie Alvino and Paige Sherlock found the back of the net.

Moran, Sherlock, Rachel Masullo and Sara Stephens all scored in the first half, giving the Sharks a 9-2 lead at the break.

Scoring slowed for LIU in the second half, but it wouldn't stop completely. Seniors Hannah von Hollen and Elise Person would both score unassisted goals. CCSU added three goals late in the period, but it wouldn't be enough, as LIU took the 11-5 win.

Up next, the Sharks take on Bryant, Saturday, March 20 in Smithfield, R.I.
