BROOKVILLE, N.Y. – A commanding second-half effort propelled the Long Island University women's lacrosse team to an 11-7 victory over Saint Francis University (Pa.) at Bethpage Federal Credit Union Stadium on Wednesday, March 24.
Whitney Moran and
Jamie Alvino had breakout performances for the Sharks, scoring three goals apiece.
Rachel Masullo added a five-point performance, scoring once and dishing out four assists, while
Hailey Duchnowski made five saves in goal to earn the win.
It was the Red Flash grabbing momentum early and holding control during much of the first half. The visitors tallied the first three goals of the contest and added two goals during the final 12 seconds of the half to take a 6-3 lead into the intermission.
The tides turned to begin the second half, however. LIU stormed out of the locker room scoring seven unanswered goals to take a 10-6 lead. Saint Francis finally got on the board during the final minute, but it was not enough as the Shark burst held up for the four-goal victory.
The Sharks return to action Saturday, March 27 when they host Central Connecticut State University at 2:00 p.m.
