BROOKLYN, N.Y. – The LIU men's swimming team had an emphatic win over local rival St. Francis Brooklyn at home Saturday in LIU Pool, as the Sharks beat St. Francis Brooklyn, 192.5 to 69.5.
Freshman
Marcell Matyiko was the star amongst a myriad of first place finishers, as he won three different events. Matyiko won the 200 free (1:45.39), the 100 butterfly (52.47) and the 200 IM (1:58.42).
Several other Sharks won two events in the meet. Freshman
Alejandro Pascual Del Cid won the 50 free (21.57) and the 100 free (47.63), freshman
Stephen Taylor won the 100 breast (57.68) and the 200 breast (2:08.22), and freshman
Daniel Chocano Fernández won the 1000 free (9:42.38) and the 500 free (4:42.68).
Several other team members won their events. Freshman
Brynjólfur Karlsson won the 100 back (53.05), freshman
Lovro Dodik won the 200 fly (1:55.66), and freshman
Trajan Houston won the 200 back in 1:56.64.
LIU also took the top spot in both relays. In the 200 medley relay,
Bruno Ferrari,
Daniel Samouilich, Dodik and Pascual Del Cid won in 1:35.39. And the Sharks capped the meet with a win in the 400 free relay, as Samouilich, Chocano Fernandez,
Porter LeVasseur and Pascual Del Cid won in 3:10.76.
