Women’s Swimming Starts ECACs Friday

EAST MEADOW, N.Y. – The LIU women's swimming & diving team had a strong start at the ECAC championship meet Friday, as the Sharks collected some hardware in the first relay of the night.

LIU had a medal finish to start the night, as the 200 free relay team of Jacqueline Grabowski, Lydia Amon, Rea Shehu and Venna Andersen out-touched Columbia at the wall to take third in 1:35.33. The B squad of Allison Naylor, Femke Backx, Alycia Weber and Aidan Condit swam fast enough to take the sixth spot from the B heat, in 1:37.36.
Ella Johnson won the B final of the 500 free with a time of 5:02.03, which would have placed her fourth overall.
Freshman Allie Bashor won the B final in the 200 IM, in 2:06.54, the sixth fastest time of the night.
In the 50 free, Andersen came in fifth with a time of 23.59.
The women closed the night with a 5-6 finish in the 400 medley relay. The team of Shehu, Andersen, Bashor and Lelah Davidson hit the wall in 3:50 flat to take the fifth spot.
