BROOKVILLE, N.Y. – The LIU women's golf team competed in five events this fall to prepare for the upcoming spring conference season. Below is a brief wrap-up of each event and the results.
Bucknell Invitational (Sep. 25-26)
The LIU women's golf team finished tied third overall out of 11 teams at the Bucknell Invitational.
- Senior Ashlee Garrett finished fourth posting an overall score of 222 (+12) and senior Julia Towne ended tied seventh with 224 (+14) after three rounds.
- Junior Vera Arrébola Granes finished in a tie for 27th with a score of 242 (+32).
- Graduate student Aida Gonzalez completed the competition close behind with 244 (+34) and ended in 34th place.
- Senior Theresa Morrissey finished tied for 43rd with a total tally of 251 (+41).
Hofstra Shootout – Birdies Against Breast Cancer Match (Oct. 4-5)
LIU had a dominant performance throughout both days of the two-day match, finishing top of the leader board with a victory over Hofstra with a team score of 591 to 622.
- LIU's Towne and Greene finished day one of the shootout tied for first at the top of the leader board after each having shot a 71 (-1). Towne went on to be the individual champion of the event, finishing day two even for the match at 144.
- Garrett and Morrissey both finished tied second, completing the weekend with a final score of 148 (+4).
- Lexi DeLorimiere finished in fifth place with a tally of 171 (+7) after two days, while Arrébola Granes finished seventh, notching 156 (+12).
- LIU had two teammates competing in the field as individuals: Maya Toth, who finished in eighth place and posted a 157 (+13), and Dina Rami, who finished fifteenth at 180 (+36).
Quinnipiac Fall Classic (Oct. 11-12)
Finishing 11
th overall at the Fall Classic, the Sharks had some stand-out individuals over the course of the event.
- Julia Towne finished in twelfth place amongst a field of over sixty competitors, carding 156 over the two-day classic.
- Gonzalez posted a 159, and finished tied for eighteenth overall.
- Juliana De Leon finished tied for 53rd, and carded 173.
- Teammate Morrissey finished tied for 56th with 176 strokes, and DeLorimiere finished close behind in 58th with 177 strokes.
Sacred Heart Fall Classic (Oct. 16-17)
Competing in their fourth event of the fall season, LIU finished seventh overall after the two-day tournament in Connecticut.
- Garrett continued her strong start to the season, finishing tied for 13th, and posting a score of 157.
- Another strong competitor for the Sharks, Towne ended the classic tied for 16th and carded a total of 159.
- Arrébola Granes completed the competition with a notched 164 and tied for 32nd.
- Eleven strokes back from Arrébola Granes and tied for 50th, Gonzalez posted a 175 for the classic.
- Maja Toth, who competed in the event as an individual entrant, shot 187 over the two days.
St. John's Invitational (Oct. 25-26)
The Sharks ended their fall season eighth overall at the St. John's invitational in Yonkers. The two-day competition was shortened to one due to weather conditions not permitting play.
- Finishing the fall season with a strong showing, Towne posted a single-round score of 75 and ended in thirteenth place.
- Not far behind, teammate Gonzalez carded a 78 for the round, tied for 26th.
- Garrett notched a total round score of 79 and ended the day tied for 28th.
- Posting a score of 82, Arrébola Granes ended the fall season in a five-way tie for 40th.
- A Sharks duo competed at the invitational as individual entrants. Morrissey, who posted a single-round score of 90 and DeLorimiere, who notched a 104.
