Women's Basketball Takes on Cleveland State

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The LIU women's basketball team took on Cleveland State on the road Sunday afternoon, falling to the Vikings, 87-65. The Sharks were led by a 21-point performance from freshman Emaia O'Brien.

  • O'Brien, who scored 16 points in LIU's last game, upped her career high Sunday, scoring 21 points in 27 minutes. The rookie went 8-foor-12 from the field, including 5-of-7 from three-point range. She also had two assists.
  • Senior Erykah Russell had 14 points for LIU, along with seven rebounds and two steals.
  • Tayra Eke had eight points, and led the Sharks with seven rebounds. She also had five blocks.
  • The Sharks out-scored Cleveland State in the third period, 21-16, but couldn't match the output in the fourth.
  • With the win, the Vikings are 5-0 on the season.
  • The Sharks shot well in the game (43.9 percent from the field and 55.6 percent from three), but were out-rebounded 44-32. LIU also had 23 turnovers, which CSU converted to 23 points.
  • Up next, the Sharks return home to host Army, Wednesday, December 1 at 7 p.m.
