BROOKLYN, N.Y. – The LIU women's basketball team played at home for the first time in the 2021-22 season Wednesday afternoon, hosting Manhattan in the Steinberg Wellness Center. The Sharks rallied late to threaten the Jaspers, but Manhattan took the win, 61-52.
 
SHARK BITES

• Scoring was slow to start in the first period, but Manhattan scored nine points in the final two minutes, taking a 15-5 lead.
• LIU shot 40 percent from the field in the second period, and 46 percent in the third, closing the lead to 35-34. Just over two minutes later, LIU tied it up, 37-37.
• Manhattan went on a run at the end of the period, taking a 44-37 lead into the fourth quarter.
• The Sharks would cut the lead to four points with a three pointer from Shyla Sanford at 7:37 that made it 47-43 for the Jaspers, but it was the closest LIU would come for the rest of the game.
• Senor Brandy Thomas led the Sharks with 13 points, five rebounds and six steals on defense.
• Seniors Erykah Russell and Shyla Sanford each had 10 points in the game. Russell also had a team-high six rebounds and two assists, while Sanford had three steals.
• Kiara Bell chipped in eight points, three rebounds and three steals, while Kennedy Taylor had seven points, four rebounds, and led the team with four assists.
• Up next, the Sharks go on a weekend swing through the Buckeye state, taking on Youngstown State, Friday, November 26, and Cleveland State, Sunday, November 28.
