SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The LIU men's hockey team had a hard-fought game against one of the top ranked teams in the nation Saturday evening, falling to the #19-ranked Fighting Irish, 5-2.
Billy Jerry scored both of LIU's goals against Notre Dame, as the Sharks move to 0-3 on the season.
Notre Dame scored a quick goal to open the game, and added another near the end of the first quarter to take a 2-0 lead. LIU got on the board with just 59 seconds to play in the first, when senior forward
Billy Jerry scored an even strength goal with help from
Jake Stevens and
Max Balinson, cutting the gap to 2-1.
Notre Dame would score three times in the second period to take the 5-1 lead, but Jerry would score once more in the third. The senior scored off a pass from
Jack Quinn, cutting the final score down to 5-2.
Goalie
Vincent Purpura made 25 saves in net for the Sharks.
Up next, the Sharks (0-3-0) head north to take on UMass Lowell, Friday, October 15 and Saturday, October 16.
