SYOSSET, N.Y.- The Long Island University women's tennis team opened up the home slate on Friday afternoon with a 7-0 sweep over Eastern Michigan.
The Sharks started off strong, earning the doubles point. The No. 1 doubles duo of

Sofiya Kuzina defeated Mayerova/Piatek, 6-0.

Phoebe Watton clinched the point when they defeated Pommiers/Ingram, 6-3. The duo of
Elinor Storkaas/
Bianca Compuesto fell to Pompa/Ganeson, 3-6, but the Sharks had clinched the doubles point already.
The Blue and Gold continued to play strong in singles, earning all the singles points for the sweep. Erechtchenko started it off, earning the first team singles point when she defeated Pommiers, 6-3,6-1 at No. 4 singles. At No. 3 singles, Storkaas defeated Pompa, 6-1, 6-1. Kuzina clinched the match when she defeated Mayerova, 6-1, 6-4 at No. 1 singles.
Dancenco was ahead in the first set, and even though Ganesan battled back in the second set, she won the match in the third set, 6-1, 3-6, 7-5. Compuesto cruised passed her opponent, knocking off Ingram 6-0, 6-2. Closing out the day,
Kate Jorjoliani defeated Piatek, 6-1, 6-4.
The Sharks make the trip to Philadelphia to take on Temple University tomorrow, Saturday February 22. Match time against the Owls is slated for 7:00 p.m.
