Baseball Battles Fordham

BRONX, N.Y. – The Long Island University baseball pitching staff limited the Fordham Rams to just five hits, but the Sharks fell in a non-conference clash 3-0 on Wednesday afternoon.

Highlights
  • Anthony Warneke recorded his second consecutive multi-hit game, going 2-3. He also walked and stole his third base of the year.
  • Christopher Wasson went 1-4.
  • Patrick Clyne stuck out two hitters across two innings in his first relief appearance of the year.
  • Nick DeSalvo allowed three hits in five innings of work.

How it happened
Warneke moved to the three-hole in the lineup after batting second in the previous three games. He singled with two outs in the first but was caught stealing to end the inning. The Rams broke through in the fourth inning with two runs, following a hitless opening three innings. The Sharks had an opportunity to even the score in the fifth, getting runners on second and third with two outs, but the Rams' pitcher worked out of the jam.

Neither team tallied a hit in the sixth and seventh innings. Trailing by two in the eighth, LIU brought the top of the order to the plate. Cade Biddle provided a much-needed baserunner, walking to start the inning. He then stole second. After a Wasson pop-up, Warneke singled down the right field line and the Sharks had runners on the corners with one out. Following a Cooper Shearon pop-up, Warneke took second. Andy Camilo walked to load the bases. The Rams switched pitchers and the reliver prevented any runs from crossing the plate. Fordham added one more in the bottom of the eighth, cementing the final score.
