MANCHESTER, N.H.- Kenzie Harmison was jsut two saves away from tying her career-high, as she made 36 on the night, but the Long Island University women's ice hockey team fell to the Saint Anselm Hawks, 2-0 on Friday evening.
Carrigan Umpherville had a good look on net early in the first, after getting the puck on a breakaway. Umpherville's initial shot was saved and
Megan Bouveur had the shot off the rebound that was once again saved by the Hawks goaltender.
The Hawks would snap the scoreless tie in the 11
th minute of the first period, sending home a rebound off an initial shot that Harmison saved.
The Hawks added to their lead in the second period on a four-on-four opportunity. Umpherville had another beautiful look at net as
Matilda af Bjur brought the puck down the ice, but the Hawks goaltender made the kick save to keep the Sharks off the board. The Sharks successfully killed off a Hawks' 5-on-3 opportunity to keep it a two-goal deficit.
Harmison continued to play strong throughout the third period, and she did not allow the Hawks to score again. Umpherville had another opportunity with a takeaway in the defensive end and another one-on-one opportunity with the goaltender who made the save once more.
Harmison finished the day with 36 saves, 14 coming in the second period. Umpherville led the team with five shots on goal.
Julia Hoffmann was behind her with two shots on goal. The Sharks successfully killed off all six of the Hawks' power plays.
After Friday's game, the Sharks secured the fourth seed in the upcoming New England Women's Hockey Alliance tournament, and will host the fifth seed, Saint Michael's next Wednesday, February 19
th.
The Blue and Gold will return to Sullivan Arena to conclude the inaugural regular season tomorrow, Saturday February 15
th with the second game against Saint Anselm. Puck drop is slated for 3:00 p.m.
