BROOKLYN, N.Y. – The Long Island University men's basketball team returns home to the Steinberg Wellness Center to host its first weekend of Northeast Conference play in downtown Brooklyn. The Sharks (5-9, 0-1 NEC) open the weekend taking on the Central Connecticut State Blue Devils (1-14, 0-2 NEC), Thursday, January 9 at 7 p.m.
SHARK BITES
- LIU will be looking to bounce back after a tough conference opener. LIU rallied to force overtime in Emmitsburg, Maryland not once, but twice, and still fell to Mount St. Mary's, 82-73.
- Senior Raiquan Clark had 25 points and nine rebounds to lead LIU. Junior Ty Flowers was next, with 14 points and 11 rebounds, along with two steals.
- Sophomore Jermaine Jackson Jr. finished with 14 points and four assists.
- CCSU will be looking for their first win of the NEC New Year, as they dropped their first two conference games at home, falling to Robert Morris (89-78) and Saint Francis U. (93-69). The Blue Devils will have their eye on the first NEC win of the year when they come to Brooklyn.
- All-time, LIU leads the series between the two schools, 25-21, but have won the last three straight, including a decisive 84-55 win at CCSU last February.
- The Blue Devils have one of the youngest rosters in the nation, with 10 players in their first year with the program.
- Up next, LIU welcomes local foe and defending NEC champions Fairleigh Dickinson to the Steinberg Center, hosting the Knights for a double header with the women, Saturday, January 11, with games scheduled to tip off at 2 and 4:30 p.m.
