BROOKVILLE, N.Y. – The Long Island University field hockey team will make its season debut at Bethpage Federal Credit Union Stadium on Sunday, September 22 when the Sharks host the Towson University Tigers in a non-conference matchup at 12:00 pm.
The Sharks return home after three straight away games, and are most recently coming off a hard-fought battle against La Salle, falling 3-2 in a shootout.
Notes on the Sharks
Junior forward
Sammy Bell notched her first goal and assist of the season against the Explorers to finish with a game-high three points. She also earned Northeast Conference Prime Performer honors this week. Sophomore forward
Emma Braeckmans scored her first goal of the season, and senior midfielder
Taylor Brodsky added her first assist of the season. In goal, junior
Rachel Vellis made nine saves for the second consecutive game. She has 27 saves on the season and is carrying a .711 save percentage.
Scouting the Tigers
The Towson University Tigers come into the game with a 1-5 record. On Friday, the Tigers hosted La Salle and notched their first victory of the season topping the Explorers 3-1. Sophomore Katy Parkinson scored two goals and freshman Samantha Alijets finished with two assists. Alijets leads the team in assists with four on the season. Sophomore Camille Pottillo earned her first win in goal with the Tigers.

The Sharks are back on the road next weekend for two games in the Keystone State. On Friday, September 27, the Sharks visit Saint Francis University at 3:00 pm, followed by a Sunday afternoon matchup at Lock Haven University at 1:00.
