SYOSSET, N.Y.- Renee Hoffmann scored her second goal of the season, but it would not be enough as the Long Island University women's ice hockey team fell to Franklin Pierce, 3-1 on Friday afternoon.

The Sharks took 22 shots on the day.
Alva Johnsson led the way with four shots.
Matilda af Bjur and Hoffmann both had three shots.
Lauren Spino,
Paula Bergström, and
Molly Meyers each took two shots, while
Grace Dima,
Linn Thomsen,
Julia Hoffmann,
Megan Bouveur, and
Morgan Schauer all took one shot. af Bjur earned a point as she finished with an assist.Â

Ava Bailey made the start in net for the Sharks. She made 23 saves on the day, including 13 in the second period. Defensively, the Sharks killed off five out of the six power plays the Ravens had.

The Ravens took their first lead of the game nine minutes into the first period. The Sharks' first offensive attack came midway through the first, but the Raven's goaltender made three consecutive saves to keep LIU off the board. Bailey made back-to-back stops to keep the deficit to just one goal.

Early in the second period, the Sharks would once again test the Ravens' goaltender, but she saved one shot and two others were blocked. On the other end of the ice, the Ravens pressured the Sharks' defense, but Bailey stood tall in net, making seven saves to keep it a one score game. In the 11
th minute, af Bjur connected with Hoffmann who found the back of the net to tie the game at one all. The Ravens were able to capitalize on a power play late in the second period, taking the lead once again. Â Â

The Sharks kicked off the third period on an offensive attack, taking eight early shots. After
Julia Hoffmann blocked a Ravens' shot, LIU brought the puck to the offensive zone, taking another five shots.

Franklin Pierce would add an insurance goal in the 15
th minute of the third period. The Sharks had a power play opportunity, but were unable to get the puck passed the goaltender. Bouveur had a short-handed opportunity late in the period, but her shot was saved.

The Sharks return to the ice tomorrow, December 7, to close out the series with Franklin Pierce. Opening faceoff at Northwell Health Ice Center is slated for 4:15 p.m.
