PHILADELPHIA, Pa.- The Long Island University field hockey team wrapped up the 2019 regular season, dropping a non-conference matchup at Temple on Sunday afternoon.

The Sharks had four shots in the contest with one on goal.
Sammy Bell led the team with three shots, while
Felicia King had the lone shot on goal.

In net,
Rachel Vellis faced 10 shots and made seven saves. The defense killed off four of the six Temple offensive penalty corners.

Temple's first shot of the day was blocked by the Sharks' defense. Temple then had its first offensive penalty corner and got a shot off but Vellis made her first save of the game. Bell had the first offensive look for the Sharks but her shot was blocked.

The Sharks' first offensive penalty corner came early in the second where Bell came inches to putting the Sharks on the board, but her shot hit the post. Temple broke open the scoreless tie in the ninth minute of the second quarter, capitalizing on an offensive penalty corner. The Owls extended their lead four minutes before halftime. King had a chance to cut the deficit in half, but her shot was saved by the Owls' goalkeeper.

After a quiet third period, the Owls had two penalty corners in the fourth and Vellis saved both shots. Temple put the game away with three minutes left to play with the third goal of the day.

The Sharks earned the three seed in the upcoming Northeast Conference tournament, and will take on the two seed Rider University on Friday, November 8 in the semifinals. Game time against the Broncs is slated for 2:30 p.m. and will be played at the Wagner College Field Hockey Complex.
