NEW BRITAIN, Conn. – The Long Island University men's soccer team jumped out to a two-goal lead during the first half and the Sharks rolled to a 3-1 victory at Central Connecticut State University on Friday, Oct. 25.
Junior
Camarri Johnson, senior
Kyle Parish, and grad student
Stefan Faistenauer each scored once for LIU, while sophomore
Javier Rehberger added an assist. Freshman
Demetri Skoumbakis needed three saves to earn his second-consecutive victory.
The scoring opened during the 28th minute when Rehberger found Faistenauer inside the penalty area on a corner kick. Faistenauer's header traveled inside the far post to give LIU a 1-0 advantage. Less than two minutes later, Parish controlled a ball at midfield before weaving through the Blue Devil defense and burying a shot towards the left post for his fourth goal of the season. The 2-0 advantage carried into the second half for LIU before Johnson tallied his second goal of the season on a loose ball in the penalty area during the 74th minute to cap off the Shark scoring.
Central Connecticut State added a late goal during the 84th minute but could not overcome the deficit as LIU picked up three points to give them 10 points in Northeast Conference play through five games.
The Sharks return to action on Sunday, Oct. 27 when they play host to Bryant University in a key battle between two of the top three teams in the NEC standings. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
