BROOKVILLE, N.Y. – The Long Island University football team came up short in its matchup with Saint Francis University (Pa.), falling by a 30-0 final on Saturday, Oct. 19.
Despite holding the Red Flash to just nine points through three quarters, Saint Francis exploded for 21 points during the final stanza to earn the 30-0 victory. Junior quarterback
Clay Beathard completed 15-of-25 pass attempts for 157 yards on the day. Freshman wide receiver
Owen Glascoe posted his best game of his young career, hauling in six catches for 60 yards, included two highlight-reel caliber one-handed grabs.
On the defensive end, junior
Jerome Brooks III led the Sharks with eight total tackles and one pass breakup. Senior
Ramshar Clarke added four tackles, one solo sack, and one quarterback hurry.
Saint Francis struck first, kicking a 26-yard field goal midway through the first quarter. Despite driving down the field on the ensuing possession, redshirt-freshman
Briant DeFelice had his field goal attempt blocked as the Red Flash held a 3-0 advantage after the first quarter. Saint Francis added a touchdown just before the half, but could not convert the extra point and carried the 9-0 lead into the locker room.
Despite a scoreless third quarter, Saint Francis took over during the fourth, scoring three touchdowns, including a 79-yard touchdown strike four minutes into the period to put the game out of reach.
LIU returns to action next Saturday, Oct. 26 when it travels to Central Connecticut State University for a 12:00 p.m. matchup with the Blue Devils.
