Football Takes on No. 23/24 Central Connecticut State in NEC Action

NEW BRITAIN, Conn. – The Long Island University football team could not overcome the No. 23/24 Central Connecticut State University Blue Devils on Saturday, October 26, falling by a 28-0 final at Arute Field.
 
Junior quarterback Clay Beathard finished 10-for-20 passing, amassing 75 yards on the afternoon. Freshman running back Ricky Conway led the LIU rushing attack with 23 yards on seven carries, while also adding two kickoff returns for 34 yards. Senior Jake Bofshever collected four receptions for 41 yards, while redshirt-freshman Owen Glascoe hauled in three passes for 26 yards.
 
On the defensive end, junior Abdoulaye Konate led the Sharks with nine total stops, while freshman Liam McIntyre and junior Jerome Brooks III added eight stops apiece. Senior Ramshar Clarke led the Sharks with 1.5 tackles for loss, while freshman Dylan Cook forced one fumble on his lone tackle of the day.
 
The LIU defense held its own during the first quarter, keeping the Blue Devils off the board during their first three possessions. The Blue Devils broke the scoring open midway through the second quarter on a one-yard touchdown run by Enyce Walker and added a four-yard touchdown pass late in the half to take a 14-0 advantage into the locker room.
 
Central Connecticut State broke the game open with a 51-yard touchdown strike to Theo Zidor early in the second half and added one final score on Walker's second one-yard plunge during the fourth quarter for the 28-0 victory.
 
LIU continues Northeast Conference play on Saturday, Nov. 2 when it travels to Robert Morris University for a 12:00 p.m. matchup with the Colonials.
