HEMPSTEAD, N.Y.- Sammy Bell scored in the second game in a row but the Long Island University field hockey team dropped a non-conference matchup at Hofstra on Saturday afternoon.

The Sharks outshot the Pride, 13-11. Bell led the way with a team-high five shots, four of them were on goal.
Kaitlyn Olton finished with three shots, two of them on target.
Felicia King had two shots, one on goal while
Emma Braeckmans,
Jonna Klein-Holte and
Taylor Brodsky each finished with a shot on goal. Brodsky also added an assist on the day. In goal,
Rachel Vellis finished the day with three saves.

It was a quiet first quarter between the two squads as Olton got a shot off that was saved by the goalkeeper in the third minute of the game. The Pride had two shots in the first, one missed left and the other was blocked.

The Sharks offense dominated the second quarter, as they took six shots, three of which were saved, and two were blocked. Bell finally got through as she scored to give the Sharks a 1-0 advantage three minutes before halftime. The Pride had one shot during the second quarter that was saved by Vellis.

Coming out of the halftime break, the Sharks had two quick shots off an offensive penalty corner, both of which were saved by the goalkeeper. The Pride evened the score in the 42
nd minute, off the offensive corner.

Early in the fourth quarter, King and Braeckmans each took a shot, both of which were saved. The Sharks also had an early corner opportunity, but Bell's shot missed wide right. Â The Pride broke open the one-all tie in the 47
th minute. Hofstra would add an insurance goal four minutes later. Bell had one last opportunity to get the Sharks within one, but her shot was once again saved by the Pride goalkeeper.

The Sharks return to Bethpage Federal Credit Union Stadium for the final home game of the regular season on Friday, October 25 when they take on Sacred Heart in a Northeast Conference matchup. Game time is slated for 3:00 p.m.
