Junior forward
Sammy Bell led the scoring with two goals, both coming in the fourth quarter. Sophomore forward
Emma Braeckmans scored the first goal of the day for the Sharks. Junior goalkeeper
Rachel Vellis had five saves on the day, all of which coming in the fourth quarter. Vellis and the defense did not allow a goal off any of the seven Warrior offensive penalty corners.
The Sharks finished the day with 15 shots, 12 of which were on target. The defense kept the Warriors to 10 shots throughout the entire game, with a majority of them coming in the fourth quarter.
Braeckmans got the Sharks on the board in the 10
th minute of action, after shooting the rebound off
Alexis Ruiz's initial shot. The Warriors would even the score at one-all midway through the second quarter. The tied game would not last long as the Sharks were able to capitalize on an offensive penalty corner opportunity a minute later. Klein-Holte collected the pass from
Felicia King and sent the ball to the back of the net from the top of the circle.
The Sharks offense continued to fire at the Warriors' goalkeeper, and converted on another offensive penalty corner early in the fourth quarter. After passing the ball around, Klein-Holte passed to Bell who shot diagonally across the circle to the lower left corner of the net. Five minutes later, Bell dribbled the ball into the circle, passed a defender, and shot to nearly the same position of the back of the net for her second goal of the game, putting the game out of reach for the Warriors.
The Sharks are back in action tomorrow when they head to local rival Hofstra for a non-conference matchup against the Pride. Game time at the Hofstra University Field Hockey Stadium is slated for 1:00 p.m.
