LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J.- An early fourth quarter goal by
Sammy Bell would not be enough to complete a comeback as the Long Island University field hockey team fell on the road in a Northeast Conference matchup against Rider, 2-1 on Sunday afternoon.
Â
Bell led the way with one goal and a team-high two shots. Sophomore forward
Emma Braeckmans and freshman forward
Kaitlyn Olton each had a shot. In goal, junior

Â
The Sharks kept the Broncs' offense to only one shot in the entire first quarter, which was saved by Vellis. Rider would break through in the first minute of the second quarter to take a 1-0 lead.
Â
Coming out of halftime, Rider had a quick offensive penalty corner, but the shot that was taken was saved by Vellis. Rider followed that with another quick shot that Vellis once again saved. In the 37
th minute, the Broncs broke through once again to extend its lead to two.
Â
The Sharks' first opportunity on net came in the 38
th minute when Olton's shot was saved by the Rider goalkeeper. The Sharks would have back-to-back offensive penalty corners, but Bell's shot was saved.
Â
Braeckmans had the first shot of the fourth quarter that was once again saved. Less than a minute later the Sharks drew a penalty corner, and Bell scored off the corner from Olton and Braeckmans.
