Shelley Helmig completed her second season as an assistant coach for the LIU volleyball team in 2019.
In her first season with the program, Helmig helped coach the team to the Northeast Conference Regular Season championship with a 12-2 league record.
She joined LIU in the fall of 2018 after serving as an assistant varsity coach and freshman head coach at Rock Bridge high school in Columbia, Missouri. Helmig also served as the head coach at Christian Fellowship high school for two seasons.
Helmig currently coaches at the club level, serving as a head coach in the NYC Juniors organization. She also served as an assistant coach for the Central Missouri Volleyball Club for four years.
She played two years for the University of Missouri club volleyball team. Helmig helped guide the team to two conference championships and four national tournament appearances. She also served as an assistant for the men’s club program that appeared in the national tournament four times including a third place finish in 2016.
Helmig earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of Missouri and is currently pursuing her master’s degree in Social Work at LIU.
