Andy Mueller

Andy Mueller completed his first season as assistant coach for LIU women's volleyball in 2019. Mueller joins the Sharks after spending the last three seasons with NEC rival, St. Francis College.

He served as the Terriers top assistant coach and recruiting coordinator for the women’s program for three seasons. In 2018, he was named the inaugural head coach for the men’s volleyball program.

He helped guide the women’s program to its best three-year stretch since the 1999-2001 seasons. In addition to his duties as recruiting coordinator, Mueller oversaw the team’s video analysis and scouting and facilitated the program’s fundraising efforts with the Friends of Terrier Volleyball club.

Mueller aided in skill development and training for the Terriers notably coaching Dominique Gerard, the program’s first two-time All-NEC performer and Aleksandra Gligoric, the first All-NEC First Team honoree in program history.

He was instrumental in launching St. Francis College men’s volleyball program through the partnership with Motor MVB, a non-profit organization working to promote the growth of the sport. The Terriers became the first new NCAA Division I program in 18 years. Mueller recruited a full roster of student-athletes for the program set to begin competition in 2020. He also coordinated a challenging schedule for the inaugural campaign.

Mueller started his coaching career at his alma mater, NAIA member Columbia College, in Columbia, Missouri as an assistant coach for three seasons. Mueller was part of the coaching staff that led the Cougars to the NAIA National Championship Game in 2010, followed by a NAIA Final Four appearance in 2011. His success also included in the coaching of multiple NAIA All-Americans, including the 2010 NAIA Player of the Year.

To go along with his collegiate coaching experience, Mueller also has coaching experience at the club level, as he currently serves a head coach and club director of the NYC Juniors Volleyball Club and its College Recruiting Coordinator, counseling multiple college players in the Pac-12, Big East, Ivy League and NESCAC conferences. In addition to various collegiate summer camps, He also served as an assistant and associate head coach with USA Volleyball from 2015-18.
