Owens joined the LIU staff in January 2024.

Owens’ passion for coaching began at Cathedral High School as a three-year manager for the women's volleyball program under he tutelage of Coach John Kesterson, Sr.

He joined the Muncie Burris coaching staff as a varsity assistant in 2011 and helped the team achieve top rankings in the state in multiple seasons before serving as an assistant for Munciana Volleyball Club 15-1, 17-1, and 18-1 teams. With Owens’ guidance, the team finished in second and ninth at nations with athletes garnering dozens of all-American honors and collegiate sponsorships.

Owens joined Vision Volleyball club as the 17-1 assistant before becoming the team’s head coach.


He has served as the Munciana Boys Director since 2019, coaching the Munciana 18.1 Raptors for the last five season

In 2021, Owens joined the Ball State University men’s volleyball staff as an assistant coach.

During his playing career, Owens won three state championships in four years and earned AVCA First Team All-America honors at Indianapolis Cathedral High School. He was a four-year varsity letter winner at Ball State University where he earned First Team All-MIVA and Third Team All-American honors. Owens graduated from Ball State with degrees in Actuarial Science and Mathematical Economics. 

After graduation, Owens played professionally three seasons for Cocuri Pribram (Czech Republic), Capitanes Arecibo (Puerto Rico) and the Durham Palatinates (England). While playing for the Palatinates he won a National Cup Championship and earned the National Cup MVP. He earned his Masters in Finance and Investment from while abroad at Durham University.

Owens has spent the last eight seasons competing in various startup professional leagues in the US for Indiana's semi-professional Team Pineapple. Team Pineapple won the US Open Championships in 2015 and 2016 and Owens was named a Premier Volleyball League All-Star in 2016.

Owens competes on the beach as well as the hard court, touring the country with IPFW Hall of Famer Nathaniel Berg, playing on the AVP qualifying circuit.
