Jackie Whitty joined the LIU swimming & diving coaching staff in the fall of 2020. She will work with both the men’s and women’s swim teams.
Whitty comes to the program with over 15 years of swim coaching experience, encompassing multiple age groups, including both collegiate and master’s levels. She joins the Shark family after 12 years at the Westfield Area YMCA, where she helmed the Devilfish Swim Team. During her tenure as coach, the team grew from 160 to over 250 swimmers. In her 12 years at the YMCA, she has developed multiple YMCA State & National Champions, Academic All-Americans, Junior and Senior National qualifiers, and US Open qualifiers.
Whitty also spent two seasons with the 757Swim program in Williamsburg, Va., developing their age-group program. Under her tutelage, the team was awarded USA Bronze Medal status for the first time ever. She also led the age-group program to a divisional first-place finish at the Virginia State Championships for the first time in team history.
Prior to her time in Virginia, she spent a season coaching at her alma mater, The College of New Jersey. As a member of the coaching staff, she helped lead her former team to a New Jersey Athletic Conference championship, and a second-place finish at the Metropolitan Conference Championship.
As an undergrad, Whitty swam four seasons with the Lions. She helped the team win four NJAC championship titles, as well as three Metropolitan Conference team titles. Individually, she had multiple individual top eight finishes at both events. She graduated from TCNJ with a degree in Criminal Justice in 2005.
Whitty currently resides in New Jersey with her husband Mark Snensky. She is an active swimmer in both the local Master’s program and in local open water competitions.
